Chesterfield County Schools invites applications for the following position:
Visually Impaired Teacher
Please note this is a "continuous recruit position" to build an applicant pool for all schools. As positions are available, all qualified applicants with complete application files will be considered.
Provides direct instruction and consultation through an integrated service model to visually impaired students. Plans, delivers and evaluates instruction based upon specific standards and objectives established by CCPS. Tasks performed are specific and recurring; the employee works with little direct supervision. Judgment is required.
Essential Job Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Screens and evaluates students on referral of the schools screening committees to determine if vision services are indicated in the educational setting.
Provides direct or consultative (including provision of special materials) services as indicated by evaluation of student
Maintains documentation of vision changes in students as well as keeping written records.
Provides inservice training for education of staff, outside agencies, parents and others.
Communicates with other health professions or educational staff concerned with the student's progress.
Attends medical appointments. Participates in low vision appointments through the Virginia Department for the Visually Handicapped and communicates with physicians when necessary
Requisitions and maintains supplies and equipment.
Supervises instructional assistant.
Participates in program development for visually impaired students.
Assists in program planning when students receiving services move from one school or program to another.
Develops knowledge and skills through conferences, educational classes, inservice programs and professional organizations.
Participates in or develops research related to the education of the visually impaired.
Performs other duties as required.
Working knowledge of the concepts, principals and methodologies of instruction.
Working knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes.
Demonstrated skill in the use of computer technology as a tool for teaching, learning, research, and communication.
Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals, to design and deliver instruction and to assess students' learning.
Demonstrated ability to analyze student needs and provide program activities consistent with those needs.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of personnel and students.
• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Possession of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accepted institution.
• Possession of the requirements for the applicable teacher license.
