Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):
Special Education Early Childhood (Pre-K) Teacher
Location or Department: Frederick Douglass
Job Summary: Instructs children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school in preschool by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self care.
Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over-stimulation and fatigue.
Helps children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books.
Serves meals and refreshments to children.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.
Certificates and Licenses: Valid Indiana Teacher's License. Any Exceptional Needs license covering Pre-K, P-3, or P-12.
Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of IPS.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft word processing software and the IPS Student Database.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
