Instructional Support Advisor
Location: Innovation Office
Purpose and Scope: The primary function is to provide expert support to build capacity within school instructional teams on research based strategies, develop strategies to solve complex problems, monitor and assess school performance data, and ensure adherence to District curriculum implementation.

Provides leadership in monitoring and implementing appropriate curriculum to meet the identified needs of the system. A depth of knowledge pertinent to the assigned curricular area, state standards, and intervention related supports is essential.
Works collaboratively as a change agent with the Instructional Leadership Team and principal to identify complex problems and school improvement priorities and develop strategies to improve performance.
Serves as a subject matter expert to support the Instructional Leadership Team and teachers on K-12 curriculum and instructional matters, research based assessment techniques, and makes recommendations pertaining thereto.
Supports the design and facilitation of district and school based professional development as necessary.
Assists with planning as well as conducting informal observations of teachers in collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team, school principal and or the Instructional Leadership Director.
Analyzes state and district assessment data to help target professional development needs; designs, plans and implements school and individual-level professional development opportunities addressing instructional content, curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment in the classroom.
Assists school teams to help develop long-term literacy, math, or science plan for a school. The advisor, in collaboration with the schoolís ILT. shall organize and facilitate grade level teams, team leaders, or curriculum focus group sessions.
Keep abreast and communicate instructional best practices with school leadership to provide maximum teacher effectiveness.
Leads analysis of data related to student achievement in Literacy, Math, or Science and supports the Instructional Leadership Teams in using this data to enhance instructional decision making.
Maintain accurate records and other documentation as requested by the Instructional Support Manager or other Directors as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities: 1. Informs faculty of professional development opportunities
2. Continually updates own professional repertoire
3. Performs other duties as assigned by the Instructional Support Manager or other Directors
Minimum Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Masterís Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment. Valid State of Tennessee teacher licensure certification required. An endorsement in the content area directly related to area of assignment, evidence of ongoing professional learning, and professional development facilitation and a minimum of two (2) years coaching experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly and accurately understand complex data and perform analysis
- Skill in developing data-supported solutions and using fact-based logic; ability to translate complex analysis in easy-to-understand manner and present to broad audience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, planning, and record-keeping skills
- Mastery of appropriate content-specific, pedagogical knowledge and related research and best practices
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to identify needs and plan and implement strategies for improvement aligned to individual school needs and priorities
- Excellent human relations skills and ability to establish and maintain successful cooperative working relationships.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment: Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.
Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
