Reading School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position:
Virtual Academy Coordinator
Qualifications: Masterís Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or appropriately related field
Pennsylvania K-12 Principal certification required; Instructional Technology Specialist II certification preferred
Overall general technical experience, including working knowledge of computer hardware, software, learning management systems, and network troubleshooting required
Proven ability to assess, initiate, coordinate, and evaluate online learning in the K-12 environment
Proven ability to supervise and work collaboratively with a team responsible for the effective delivery of instruction to students who do not generally adapt well to the traditional school environment
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to accomplish effective community outreach and work with varied constituencies, including, but not limited to, District personnel, students, parents, and the public in general
Proven ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and to effectively and efficiently multi-task
Proven planning, organizational, project management, and decision making skills evidencing good and practical judgment
Strong skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data on student success and achievement
Experience in an urban school district preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
Oversee all aspects of the Districtís Virtual Academy, including, but not limited to, course selection and development to ensure that online courses meet curricular objectives and are conducive for online learning.
Provide educational leadership, administrative direction, support, guidance, and technical assistance for the Districtís Virtual Academy.
Serve as point of contact and liaison between charter schools, guidance counselors, parents, students, service providers, and the District Administration.
Serve as liaison between District faculty and administration relative to the Districtís Virtual Academy.
Provide training and support to students in the use of online learning tools and learning management systems.
Provide training and support to parents in the use of student monitoring tools.
Manage applicable online systems for service providers, and any other technology used to facilitate online learning.
Responsible for registering and managing students in the applicable online system customized by various providers.
Assist students in the enrollment process for online learning opportunities.
Create an appropriate environment, both virtual and physical, that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Create and maintain a progress reporting system using the technology provided by service providers.
Create and maintain a Virtual Academy website in accordance with District protocol and expectations established by the Director of Community Engagement.
Maintain an appropriate inventory of all hardware used by students enrolled in the Districtís Virtual Academy.
Organize and manage the use of hardware for students when hardware is assigned to a student outside of the school building.
Work with the Technology Department to ensure optimal online learning.
Conduct house visits to online students requiring assistance with the technology medium used for online courses and/or technical difficulties with equipment necessary for online education.
Report attendance in the Districtís data management system and alert any attendance concerns to the Administration in a timely manner.
Collaborate with other school districts to encourage an exchange of knowledge and resources in facilitating effective online learning.
Regularly and routinely communicate with parents/guardians as to the progress of students.
Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make recommendations and decisions within areas of responsibility.
Consistently represent the District in a positive and professional manner.
With supervisory approval, attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues associated with areas of responsibility.
Perform such other duties as requested/assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full-time (11-month) exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the Districtís approved Compensation and Benefits Plan for Act 93 administrators.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boardís policy on evaluation of personnel.
