Aspen School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

8th Grade Mathematics Teacher

Location: Aspen Middle School

Job Description: The Middle School Mathematics Teacher instructs and facilitates student growth and achievement in alignment with the CO Common Core Mathematics Curriculum, primarily that of the 8th grade.

Supervisor: This teacher reports to the Principal of Aspen Middle School.

Requirements:
Current Colorado teaching license with an endorsement in secondary mathematics, or the ability to obtain this license within the first 3 months of hire

Clear understanding of and the ability to teach mathematical topics including pre algebra, algebra, and geometry

The desire to join and contribute to the collaborative culture of the AMS and ASD mathematics departments

A masterís degree in mathematics is desirable

4 years of experience as a classroom teacher, preferably in the middle school environment

The Successful Candidate Will:
Demonstrate knowledge of CO Common Core Mathematics Curriculum and academic standards

Demonstrate expertise in mathematics instruction, including knowledge of the ways in which learning takes place and the appropriate levels of cognitive, social, and emotional development of young adolescents

Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, including technology, to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills

Take responsibility for student academic growth using a variety of strategies to inform instructional decisions

Reflect on teaching practices while analyzing student learning, development and growth, and apply what is learned to improve instruction

Demonstrate enthusiasm for collaboration using a Multiple Tiers of Support System (MTSS) with a team of administrators, teachers, and support staff

Demonstrate ability to work with cross-departmental and or grade level teams to develop goals for improving student achievement

Demonstrate teacher leadership, advocating for students and exhibiting high ethical standards

Have a strong desire to extend learning experiences beyond the classroom, including participation in middle school outdoor education

Establish a safe learning environment in which a diverse set of students will have the opportunity to think independently and express original ideas

Provide students with opportunities, and support the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills

Take responsibility for studentsí academic growth and use a variety of assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions

Reflect on teaching practices on a regular basis in order to inform instruction

Communicate and interact effectively and productively, both verbally and in writing, with students, colleagues and families

Contribute actively to the Multiple Tiers of Support System (MTSS) process

Work with cross-departmental and or grade level teams to develop goals for improving student achievement

Demonstrate appropriate physical appearance relative to job and environmental expectations in a manner that enhances the school community

Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with adolescents and adults contacted in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation and professional conduct

Contribute to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision-making

Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the jobís functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in a generally clean and comfortable environment.

Salary Range: $42,000.00 - $51,000.00 / Salary
