Job Summary:
The Grand Rapids Public Museum School (Museum School) is a unique collaboration between the Grand Rapids Public Schools, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, and Grand Valley State University’s College of Education. With the assistance of these partners, the Museum School teachers and staff will employ constructivist teaching methods utilizing design thinking, focusing on experiential place-based learning, and leveraging the artifacts, collections and exhibitions of the Grand Rapids Public Museum. This teaching position includes participation on a design team for the high school program of study in preparation for the school’s opening in Fall 2018, as well as extensive professional development and curriculum writing. This position will supervise the Museum School Artifact Lab and be the primary liaison between the school and the curatorial staff of the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Center of Innovation Job Functions:
- Foster and coordinate meaningful, innovative, and collaborative relationships with partner organizations, community members and disciplinary experts specifically in Social Sciences, Museum Studies, Art and Design, and Language Arts/Communications fields.

Instructional Practice Job Functions:
- Use multiple data sources in collaboration with other classroom teachers to collaboratively identify gaps in learning, design appropriate interventions, differentiate instructional practices and implement these practices across curriculum areas.
- Plan and provide appropriate educational supplemental activities to meet both group and individual needs of all students.
- Incorporate effective and highly effective teaching practices into daily practice.
- Collaborate with special education staff to provide students with individualized education programs (IEPs) appropriate accommodations.

Professional Development/Cross Content Unit Development Job Functions:
- Collaboratively develop cross-curricular units that meet content standards as outlined by Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs), Next Generation Science Standards, and Common Core State Standards for Math.
- Complete up to 100 hours of PD, participation at school events, and/or curriculum development which may occur outside regular school hours, including during summers.

Overall Job Functions:
- Contribute as a team member in the decision making processes of the school as facilitated by the building administrator.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as outlined by GREA Contract.
- Develop and implement goals of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
- Implement school district‘s Academic Plan.
- Comply with District policies, procedures and rules.
- Other duties as assigned.

Preparation, Training, Education, and Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
- Must hold a valid Michigan Teacher Certification and be certified in at least one of the following academic subjects: Social Studies (RX) or English Language Arts (BA), or related field.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of effective teaching experience in a middle or high school environment.
- Experience teaching computer sciences, industrial design, or robotics in a project-based learning environment are strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and development.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
- Have current CPR and First-Aid certification or be willing to obtain.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively as a member of a team.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
