Salary: $38,000 and comprehensive benefits package

Job Summary:
The Grand Rapids Public Museum School (Museum School) is a unique collaboration between the Grand Rapids Public Schools, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, and Grand Valley State University’s College of Education. With the assistance of these partners, the Museum School teachers and staff will employ constructivist teaching methods utilizing design thinking, focusing on experiential place-based learning, and leveraging the collections, expertise, and methods of the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Center of Innovation Job Functions:
- Design learning experiences for development by leveraging partners and the community as a classroom.
- Embrace, model and implement design thinking to cultivate deeper learning skills such as collaboration, generative thinking, and empathy.
- Utilize museum collections, facilities, and assets to deepen learning.
- Draw on place-based education theory utilizing best practices for inquiry, experiential learning, student interests, and connections between local and global contexts.
- Embrace and practice principles of Restorative Practice and - Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support.
- Reflect on one’s own professional practice, independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize technology to enhance learning.
- Extend classroom instruction beyond school walls on a regular basis. Foster meaningful, productive and collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, partner organizations, networks, community members and families/support networks to deepen student learning experiences.

Instructional Practice Job Functions:
- Formatively assess students to gauge student learning and use it to drive instruction.
- Use data sources to identify gaps in learning and plan lessons accordingly.
- Utilize differentiated instructional practices and implement these practices into daily instruction.
- Utilize and adhere to district-approved curriculum and assessments.
- Plan and provide appropriate educational supplemental activities to meet both group and individual needs of all students.
- Incorporate effective and highly effective teaching practices into daily practice.
- Collaborate with special education staff to provide students with individualized education programs (IEPs) appropriate accommodations.

Professional Development/Cross Content Unit Development Job Functions:
- Collaboratively develop cross-curricular units that meet content standards as outlined by Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs), Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Math.
- Beginning in May, 2018, complete up to 100 hours of professional development related to the school’s theme. At least 60 hours of PD and/or curriculum development should take place during summer 2018.

Overall Job Functions:
- Contribute as a team member in the decision making processes of the school as facilitated by the building administrator.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as outlined by the GREA Contract.
- Develop and implement goals of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
- Implement school district‘s Academic Plan.
- Comply with District policies, procedures and rules.
- Other duties as assigned.

Preparation, Training, Education, and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
- Must hold a valid Michigan Teacher Certification and be dually certified in a core academic subjects [Math (EX), Science (DX or DI), Social Studies (RX) or English (BA)]. Dual certification in at least two areas preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of effective teaching experience in a K-8 or middle school environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
- Expertise in practices of Place-based Education and/or Design Thinking for education strongly preferred.
- Have current CPR and First-Aid certification or be willing to obtain.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively as a member of a team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment), taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
