Knox County Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position:

Special Education Coach

Location: Special Education

Minimum Salary: $38,295.00

Job Summary - Special Education Mentor: To support and provide direct instructional assistance to Special Education classroom teachers via a collegial and collaborative model and indirectly improve the growth and functioning of special education students.

• Valid Tennessee teacher’s license with proper endorsement in Special Education
• Previous experience in special education preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written
• Dependable transportation to various sites
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Function / Job Duties:
• Report to Lead Supervisor, Resource
• Observe and assess students when in special and general education settings
• Observe and assess teaching strategies to improve classroom instruction
• Observe IEP meetings for procedural and efficient implement of process
• Follow classroom observations by conferring with Pupil Personnel specialist, interpret observations, develop behavior/learning plans with specialists and assist in developing appropriate goals and objectives for IEP’s
• Maintain records and follow up periodically in order to evaluate progress and adjust program if needed
• Consult with appropriate staff regarding procedures, needs, support services, etc.
• Assist Pupil Personnel supervisory staff with inservice programs as appropriate
• Train and coordinate inservice sessions for specific teacher/teaching assistant training in curriculum
• Assist in the development of improvement plans for specific teachers
• Inform Special Education supervisors of activities and schedule, progress of cases, etc.
• Attend staff meetings as appropriate
• Assist with selected Professional Reviews and IEP meetings as requested
• Work with parents and staff of special education students at building level and in IEP meetings to solve behavior, program and placement issues
• Establish communication with private or community organizations that are involved in the treatment of select special education students
• Coordinate and cooperate with administrators and supervisors in the delivery of the special education program
• Chair specific committees/projects as assigned
• Serve as Special education representative to community, agency or parent advocacy groups
• Provide for compliance with IDEA, Section 504 state rules and regulations and Knox County Board of Education policies/procedures
• Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
• Perform other duties assigned
