Director of Elementary Learning

Location or Department: Associate Superintendent

Summary:
The Director of Elementary Learning plays a critical role in strengthening the district’s efforts to ensure alignment across all academic functions in order to improve learning outcomes of all students in the IPS Title I eligible elementary schools. The Director of Elementary Learning collaborates closely with district leadership and across functional teams to develop the capacity of elementary school leadership teams, to identify and curate external resources as the district moves to expanded school-based autonomy. The person in this role will serve as a key connector between the Curriculum & Instruction, School Supervision, and school leadership teams to ensure aligned execution of district priorities that is grounded in effective curricular and pedagogical decisions at the school level.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Builds effective relationships with school leadership and Central Services teams
- Sets high expectations of achievement that support ambitious and measurable goals for applicable (Title I schools) school leadership teams
- Regularly visits elementary schools to gather formal and informal observational data on school performance, including but not limited to: observing school leadership team meetings; attending Professional Learning Communities; observing classroom instruction; observing coaching and data analysis meetingsIdentifies and curates external instructional resources for use by elementary schools’ leadership teams
- Serve as an additional resource to school leaders and school staff as it relates to school implementation of the School Improvement and the Title I Schoolwide Plan
- Ensures implementation of high-quality curriculum and effective pedagogical practices across all IPS elementary schools
- Executes high-quality professional development for elementary schools’ leadership teams
- Responds to data and feedback from elementary schools’ leadership teams and actively contribute to efforts that continuously improve district practices

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in Education, including school leadership experience
- Previous K-12 classroom teaching experience with evidence of high-progress student outcomes
- Previous experience in Education management is a plus; relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to the board of education, employees, the Core Leadership Team, public groups, and the IPS Board of School Commissioners.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: School Administration License, preferred
