LICENSE: All District Social Workers will be required to have a School Social Worker endorsement from the Nevada Department of Education or acquire the license by the end of the 2018-2019 School Year.

Must possess a license issued by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers - a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or;

Possess a Social Work, MFT, Psychology, Mental Health or Counseling Degree or;

Meet the criteria as designated as a State of Nevada as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA).

NOTE: This position is for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year only. This position is strictly contingent upon sufficient SSW grant funding.

SALARY & BENEFITS: All School Social Workers will be placed on one of the two fixed salaries contingent upon grant funding: (a) Licensed Social Worker (LSW) - $47,000.00 ; (b) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - $62,000.00. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave.

Bilingual preferred.

Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen test.

This is a new position.

Job Goal and Purpose:

The School Social Worker (SSW), called Safe School Professionals (SSPs) at their school sites, promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home, school and community partnerships and address barriers to student learning and achievement. The SSW will contribute to the development of a healthy, safe and supportive environment which is achieved by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and influences of family, community and cultural differences on student success.

General Job Description and Performance Responsibilities:

The SSWís principal task is to empower students, families and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources that develop each studentís educational potential. SSWs will concentrate on studentsí academic, behavioral and emotional needs and will provide services, support, advocacy, intervention and resources that will help to empower students to increase their academic potential.

The SSW will interface with the educational process and meet the needs of schools, students, and families in the Carson City School District. Using a strengths-based, tiered and system-wide approach, SSWs focus on prevention and intervention by facilitating engagement between schools, families, and the community. SSWs address the Districtís Strategic Plan imperatives by providing services to students and families, linking children, youth, and families to community agency resources, and aligning services to meet the educational needs of all students. The SSW will be expected to adhere to the Carson City School District School Board Policies and Regulations. The SSW will report to the Schoolís Principal or Vice Principal onsite. This person will also adhere to requirements and practices set forth by the State of Nevadaís Department of Education.

School Social Workers work very closely and collaborate/partner with school counselors.

Position Requirements:

An eligible School Social Worker for Carson City School District (CCSD) employment is defined as a:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)
Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
Marriage and Family therapist (MFT)

Education and Training:

School Social Workers must possess a Masterís Degree in Social Work (MSW), Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) or Mental Health Counseling or Psychology, from a college or university accredited by degreed professionís accreditation body.

Licenses and Certifications (once degreed):

Must possess a School Social Worker endorsement as specified by the Nevada Department of Education.

Must possess a license issued by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers - a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW).

Must possess a Social Work, MFT, Psychology, Mental Health or Counseling Degree.

Must meet the criteria as designated as a State of Nevada as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA).
