Summer Learning Academy (Title III) Lead Teacher ESL

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Summer School Instruction approximately June 22 July 10 No Classes July 3
SALARY: $37.45/hour

The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.

Possess valid Michigan elementary teaching certificate with ESL endorsement in NS (K-8).
Two years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience using culturally responsive pedagogies when teaching children who are English Learners.
Experience as a collaborative instructional team member at home school.
Experience learning at least one language other than
Ability to work effectively with multilingual parents from varying socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to coordinate and team with building staff.
Ability and willingness to mentor university ESL interns.
Experience creating and modifying academic content and ESL curricula.
Experience participating in district Equity and/or CARE team(s) strongly desired.

Work with summer school principal to execute the summer program.
Assist summer school teachers in completing pre-/post assessments and communicate with students' parents.
Assist summer school principal in leading an evening parent orientation meeting in late May or early June (2 hours).
Assist in planning an Open House one evening during the summer school session and an end-of-program celebration (4 - 8 hours).
Assure that teachers are implementing the summer school program as designed, with fidelity.l
Assist in planning 20 hours of pre-summer school professional development.
Collaborate with other summer school interns, teachers, and university faculty to reflect on student learning and adjust instructional plans to meet student needs.
Assist in leading two additional (compensated) hours outside of the instructional day per week.
Interact with other teachers, University of Michigan faculty, graduate students, and student interns on topics related to culturally responsive content area and language instruction.
Support the development of student interns by modeling instruction, co-planning, and providing feedback.
Other related duties as assigned by the Summer Learning Academy Principal.
