The Center for Global Broadcasting and Journalism focuses on a wide range of traditional and alternative media and new communications technologies. Students are provided with theoretical and practical frameworks for understanding media development, production, distribution, and its social, political, cultural, and cognitive impact on society. The theme will include proven strategies for enhancing each student’s ability to write, speak and think critically about a variety of channels of communication. These broad-based, flexible skills enrich students’ lives and offer them the tools essential to thrive in professions revolutionized by rapidly evolving communication technologies.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Academy Leader is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment with high school students. Monitors and supervises the creation of student schedules and all student support structures within the instructional program in the Small Learning Community. Provides vision, leadership, and coordination of the instructional program in the Small Learning Community which routinely affects the organization and/or surrounding community in a demonstrable and positive way. Works collaboratively with the campus principals and other academy leaders to campus extracurricular activities/school-wide functions and the effective use of campus space. Coordinates the extended day learning activities for the Small Learning Community. The Academy Leader job duties can vary depending on the subject area required to perform their job. This position reports to the School Principal assigned.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops annual implementation plans and up-to-date descriptions of SLC to include themes, pathways, student proficiencies, course offerings and course benchmarks. Serves as the primary evaluator for teachers assigned to the Small Learning Community.
• Develops and monitors the implementation of 4-year programs of study related to the theme of the Small Learning Community.
• Coordinates, facilitates, and provides professional development for the staff of the Small Learning Community.
• Provides support to teachers through coaching, interdisciplinary teaming, classroom visits, and lesson demonstrations.
• Supervises the school counselor with scheduling students to the appropriate classes and consistently monitors student schedules.
• Participates in recruitment, hiring, and training of faculty/staff required for small learning community staffing levels.
• Manages external resources and grants that specifically support the Small Learning Community.
• Works with the school registrar to build the master schedule for the small learning community and works with the Campus Leadership Council to coordinate school-wide activities.
• Participates in the monitoring of on-site officers and in the development of the "Shared Building Agreement" and traffic- flow plans.
• Submits all required documentation and status reports to building principals in a timely manner.
• Works collaboratively with the building principal and other Academy Leaders to develop the school's budget, allocate resources, and other tasks required to maintain a climate conducive for teaching and learning.
EDUCATION:
• Master's Degree required

EXPERIENCE:
• 5 - 7 years of teaching experience; 1 year of administration experience preferred

CERTIFICATION:
• Georgia professional certification at Level 5 or higher in a teaching or service field and in Educational Leadership. (A copy of the Georgia certificate must be on file or a letter of eligibility from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission may document leadership certifications from another state.)
