Purpose of Position:

The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for providing effective learning experiences in the classroom and laboratory for students with diverse cultures, interests, abilities and expectations. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day or evening, on any LPTC campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, and serving on various committees. An instructor performs all other duties as directed by the academic dean or the president or designee.


•Master’s degree with a major in the subject area or a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the area to be taught. •Teaching experience at the college level.
•The instructor will obtain and maintain a Nebraska State dual enrollment certification.


At a minimum, the essential functions of the instructor are:

•Teach 12-15 credit hours (or the equivalent in lab and learning community hours) each semester;
•Maintain 10 office hours per week for the purpose of assisting and advising students;
•Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects;
•Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and encourage students to fully engage in the learning process;
•Provide competency-based education which aligns with the LPTC model of curricula;
•Design and deliver instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, and develop activities which support lesson objectives;
•Deliver learning-centered instruction that fosters student involvement through effective planning and preparation for classes;
•Promote student success by showing flexibility in teaching style and work schedule and exhibit a passion for teaching and for students;
•Manage the learning environment through accurate recordkeeping, submission of grades and other reports on time; enforce college academic and attendance policies;
•Contribute to the learning culture by participating on assigned committees;
•Support campus events such as orientation and graduation, and participate in various other workshops and meetings;
•Assess learning outcomes through the college-wide assessment plan and classroom evaluation of instruction, modifying instruction as needed to improve learning;
•To recommend textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to the /VP of Teaching & Learning;
•To assist in the college’s library collection development by selecting, evaluating, and culling library resources in each appropriate discipline;
•To teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus;
•To conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy;
•To participate in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes initiatives;
•To read and understand college online resources (Faculty Handbook, Personnel Policies & Procedures);
•To study and utilize students' learning styles in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations;
•To incorporate instructional technologies in classroom delivery;
•To assist with pre-registration and registration;
•To assist in recruitment and retention of students;
•To serve as an academic advisor to assigned students;
•To refer students to counselors and tutors as needed;•To submit required reports to the appropriate college personnel;•
Acquire knowledge of Winnebago culture through available workshops, attending at least one each semester and attending one IDST course within the first year of employment;
•Demonstrate commonly accepted standards of professionalism and ethical behavior;•Participate in interviewing and selection committees for new faculty and staff members.
