New Hanover County Schools is accepting applications for the following position:

Speech-Language Pathologist - This is a regular ten month contract with full benefits. THIS POSITION IS 50% FREEMAN ELEMENTARY AND 50% HOLLY SHELTER MIDDLE SCHOOL. PLEASE APPLY TO BOTH POSTINGS.

Job Qualification
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and have a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), a valid NC driver's license, and be eligible for a NC SLP teaching license.

1. Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
2. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American
Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
3. North Carolina teaching credential.
4. Valid North Carolina driver’s license.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and Related Services

JOB GOAL: To assist students with special communicative needs; work collaboratively with school personnel to accomplish speech language goals and objectives of the New Hanover County Schools.


1. Follow all rules, policies and procedures of New Hanover County Schools, along with state and federal regulations, including IDEA.
2. Conduct screening and testing, obtains diagnostic information, analyze information and make recommendations regarding programs and services.
3. Develop individual education plans for each speech-language eligible student in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, LEA representative and other pertinent professionals.
4. Plan therapy and use appropriate diagnostic tools and therapy techniques to support the curriculum.
5. Team with support specialists, teachers, and other school personnel in the delivery of services; plan, conduct, and assist in development activities.
6. Provide appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech, language and hearing programs and services.
7. Organize the school program, cooperate with others to accomplish its goals, coordinate program services with other student services and maintain records in accordance with established rules, regulations and ethical standards.
8. Maintain Medicaid billing profiles and therapy notes on all Medicaid eligible students using the designated billing service for the district.
9. Provide consultation to parents, teachers and other appropriate school personnel; seek the assistance of teachers, parents and others to meet the communication needs of students.
10. Make recommendations and referrals for audiological/medical and related services.
11. Participate in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language-hearing and education.
12. Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director and/or principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten month work year/FLSA Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board, local and state policy on evaluation of teachers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and methods of speech pathology and their proper application in the educational environment.
• Ability to screen, evaluate and provide required speech pathology services.
• Proficiency in providing a wide range of treatment activities.
• Considerable knowledge of equipment and assistive technology available to use in therapy.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work.
• Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
