Beaufort County School District is accepting applications for the following position:

Director of Elementary Education

POSITION PURPOSE:

To improve educational outcomes for all Beaufort County School students by supporting schools though high quality, standards/based interventions that are matched to studentís academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. As the Elementary Director, he or she will work within the Instructional Services Office to coordinate district efforts to improve student outcomes. This position provides innovative strategies anchored in current research to ensure academic success for all student groups. There is specific focus on schools with proficiency scores lower than 40% and state-identified Low Performing Schools. This position directs Gifted and Talented initiatives, coordinates the Districtís Summer School Programs and interventions, and social studies for students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Engage teachers in collaborative planning, research and curriculum development using best practice in education.
Provide leadership in education to ensure attainment of the educational goals of the District Strategic Plan and Board Goals.
Assist the Instructional Services Division to provide leadership for the continued analysis, development and monitoring of short- and long-range plans for improving educational programs.
Plan district wide professional development for teacher training, school level project support and continued district expectations with fidelity.
Ensures the implementation, promotion, and delivery of the SC Standards in each of the content area.
Provides guidance and support to schools that are underperforming academically by conducting curriculum audits, academic alignment, instructional review, and instructional improvement processes within a continuous improvement model.
Assists in the design and implementation of district initiatives as they relate to instructional improvement.
Coordinates reporting of required data collection for student academic interventions.
Coordinates, supports, and evaluates professional learning for student academic interventions.
Works with school teams to help develop strong instructional support models.
Direct and coordinate intervention and enrichment activities for improving student outcomes.
Direct and coordinate Summer Programming for students.
Coordinate special projects, grants and innovative district and school programs for the Instructional Services Division.
Assist at the development of School Renewal Plans.
Design and deliver innovative, flexible structures and services that are responsive for all learners.
Provide direction, support and monitoring of school improvement at the district and school level based upon current data.
Assist Chief of Instructional Services in the evaluation of school improvement implementation.
Provide direction, monitoring and support in the professional development for leaders, teachers and district staff aligned to the District Strategic Plan and School Renewal Plans.
Coordinate with various departments (Human Resources, Finance, and Federal Programs) to ensure schools are prioritized and receive services and supports needed to improve student outcomes.
Develop communication protocols and procedures for principals.
Cultivate and manage relationships with local educational leaders, community stakeholders and external partners as appropriate.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold or be eligible for a South Carolina Teaching Certificate.
Masterís degree (MA) or equivalent, or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of K-12 education and experience.
