Summary These positions are located in Acadia National Park, in the Interpretation & Education Division. The typical seasonal period for Acadia National Park is May-October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026 Please visit find a park for additional park information.
Major Duties: Develop and present curriculum-based, in-park and out-of-park programs for pre-K-college aged school groups and teacher workshops. Research, develop, and present hands-on, resource-based educational programs including walks, hikes, tours, power-point presentations, and demos. Create curriculum-based lesson plans with measurable goals and objectives that are age appropriate. Includes guidelines for utilizing age-appropriate interactive teaching methods. Create props, worksheets, handouts, games, and site bulletins, and other visual and participatory aids to enhance interpretation and education programs. Answer inquiries concerning the goals, curriculum content, and scheduling of the full array of educational programs and services as well as inquiries concerning park resources and outreach materials, including Junior Ranger programs and other youth projects. Provide information to park visitors in park visitor centers, via email, and via phone. Prepare preliminary draft text for fliers, bulletins, calendars, press releases, displays, and other materials associated with the publicizing of park educational programs and resources. Assist in posting final content on park web. Area Information: Acadia National Park is located in Bar Harbor, ME on Mount Desert Island, approximately 3.5 hours north of Portland, ME. Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island along Maine's Frenchman Bay. It serves as a gateway to the mountains and cliffs of neighboring Acadia National Park. Towering over the park, Cadillac Mountain has trails and views of the town, the bay and the Cranberry Islands. Approximately 10,000 people live on Mt. Desert Island. The island has a high school and various middle/elementary schools.
