Assistant Superintendent - Business Services
Date Available: 07/01/2026
Location: District Office
Purpose Statement:
Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, this position is a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and is responsible for the
oversight of all Gilbert Public Schools financial operations. The Assistant Superintendent of Business Services will have broad responsibility for
day-to-day financial activities and oversight for a $300 million plus budget. This position is charged with oversight of appropriate internal controls,
risk management and financial reports to assure compliance with state and federal laws.Specific areas of responsibility include Finance, Budget,
Accounting, Payroll, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Nutrition Services, and other areas assigned. The Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
shall work closely with the Chief Technology Officer and the Chief Operations Officer in developing annual capital spending needs as well as
preparing for a potential bond election.The Assistant Superintendent will define the operational structure to support these and all responsibility
areas and manage directors and managers who supervise other employees. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Gilbert Public Schools policies and applicable laws.

Learning Development- Level F Advanced, in-depth understanding in a widely recognized field of study. additional command of principles, facts,
and practices associated with multiple specialized fields. Learning development is achieved by the completion of a master’s degree program or
equivalent, very advanced mathematics and language development, advanced understanding of practical systems.
Problem Solving - Level 4 Work situations are broadly defined, complex and diverse, occasionally unprecedented. Problems have many dimensions
to consider involving creative thinking limited in scope to related fields of specialization. Consequences must be evaluated through formal analytical
methods, and strategies developed for action.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of
everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and
carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.
Social Requirements
Human Relations Skill- Level D Cooperation and understanding from others are very important and difficult to achieve. Careful strategy is needed
to inspire and maintain relationships, build trust and confidence, and affect behavior in others. Convincing others and persuading them to make a
decision or action in individual, group, or large audience formats is essential.
Scope of Contacts - Level 4 Continuous interactions with a highly diverse set of individuals, groups, and audiences from throughout the
organization and/or from numerous outside sources (customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, media, the general public, etc.) are critical to job
performance.
Work Environment
Performance Environment - Level C Work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are frequent and require
significant adaptation. The performance environment rapidly evolves, requiring continual upgrading of multiple yet related skills.
Physical Working Conditions - Level 1 Generally good working conditions. Little or no exposure to extremes in noise, temperature, etc. little or no
exposure to safety or health hazards.

Level of Accountability -Level F Responsible for initiating and directing activities that impact more than one department or a portion of a major
function; for planning, staffing, personnel and labor relation, and fiscal economics. advanced management.

influence on the mission of the organization.
Additional Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
● Demonstrated experience in managing a financial management information system for an organization of significant size.
● Proven ability to oversee staff and build consensus among peer professionals unfamiliar with financial management.
● Proven customer service orientation toward supporting schools, departments,and the Superintendent.
● Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
● Demonstrated skill as an articulate and persuasive communicator, both orally and in writing.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
Experience: 3 - 5 years relevant work experience, knowledge and management of all aspects of school business operations required, preferably at a
large school district.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance or related area, advanced degree preferred and CPA preferred. AASBO Certification is a plus.
Certifications/Clearances: Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
